[Mounted balloons] Important set of 15... - Lot 23 - Gros & Delettrez
[Mounted balloons] Important set of 15 letters by mounted balloons to Maisoncelles La Jourdan by Vire (Calvados), dated from September 24, 1870 to December 29, 1870. Most of the letters have the date stamp of Paris, the complete text of the missive, the date stamp of arrival in Vire, the stamp Napoleon Lauré 10c bistre and rarely 20c blue. Sometimes the letter has no stamp or it has been cut out leading to a lack of text. Among these letters, one is written on the "Journal-Poste. Correspondance aérienne" of November 20, 1870, and a second on the "Lettre-Journal de Paris. Gazette des Absents" of December 7, 1870. All these letters are sent by Mr. Ernest Carel, camped in Montmartre with the Mobiles of Essoyes, to his wife. Attached to this set are letters dated from Essoyes from August 28, 1870 to January 24, 1871, testifying to the arrival of the Prussians and the daily life conditions of the inhabitants during the occupation, as well as various later documents: service order, citation of the soldier Paul Van Esse in 1916, handwritten diary dated from August 23 to 29, 1944, of 8 pages and a half signed by Edmond Merx, relating the military events around Vernon, etc.
