WELLS, Herbert-Georges (1866-1946). L.A.S. à J.Y. Mc Peake. Easton Glebe, s.d. [1919]. 4 pp. in-8. En anglais. Belle lettre du romancier anglais, maître et pionnier de la science-fiction et de l’anticipation, auteur de L’Homme invisible et de La Machine à explorer le temps, adressée au directeur de la National Magazine Company. Wells projette d’écrire un livre sur les espoirs et désillusions de la jeunesse : « I do not contemplate any articles suitable for Nash’s or the Cosmopolitan at present. I shall probably not write to release (as the money people say) anything for magazine publication this year. But I have planned the beginnings of a fairly big novel which I shall write in the end of the year & the early half of 1920. It will be about 120,000/150,000 words long & it will deal with the hopes & disillusionments of the young people in this peace-settlement time. It will be a real novel chiefly about young men & women with one or two [?] older people. Now if you really want anything of mine for Nash’s & the Cosmopolitan this serial is what you ought to have. If you now & fix it you will - subject of course to its being done get it […]. But if you don’t take deep breath & get that thing read, taking all the risks of what a written book may or may not be, then I doubt if you will have the ghost of a smell at any of my work for two years […] ».
