* Une broderie Arménienne, Caucase. Artsakh, Karabagh, Armén - Lot 154
* Une broderie Arménienne, Caucase. Artsakh, Karabagh, Arménie. This embroidery belongs to a group which is usually attributed these years for some economical reasons to Azerbaijan. But, there is no one scientific reason to attribute these pieces to Azerbaidjan. In this case, and as well as in the Eugen Chesrow’s example and similar to this one (sold in Sothebys) the cross motive and the spinning svastika motive are typical of Armenians. Hratch Kozibeyokian, President of Armenian Rug Society did confirmed to us the Armenian origin of this embroidery. For similar example cf: - Eberhart Herrmann, Asiatische Teppich-und Textilkunst, band 4, Munich, 1992, pl. 19, pp. 48-49; - Heinrich Kirchheim, et al., Orient Stars, Stuttgart and London, 1993, pls. 45, 50 and 51; - Sotheby’s New York, December 5, 1987, lot 118. - Sothebys New York in January 2014, a similar embroidery considered as Azerbaijani, South Caucasus worked in satin stitch and stem stitch, second half 17th century, has been sold in for 87,500 USD.Cf. lot 2. Etat / Condition: bon état général moyen. Restaurations mineures. Regarding the lack of information about this type of embroidery, we decided to not give any datation. Some scholars are dating them from 17 th ou18 th century, we prefer to not pronounce about any datation. h.63 x 101 cm / 2 x 3,3 ft
