[Paris], [late 18th c. - early 19th c.] In-4 (ca. 26 x 19 cm.), 73 maps, contemporary fawn half-basin, 5-ribbed spine, fawn title-piece, caissons adorned with gilt fleurons and double fillet, red edges (binding worn, defects including split without missing at the fold of the 1st map (world), small stains, small wormholes in the lower margin of one map).
Atlas of 73 copper-engraved maps, mostly after Nicolas Bellin, on double-page spreads or fold-outs to accompany the Histoire générale des voyages, ou Nouvelle collection de toutes les relations de voyages par mer et par terre by Abbé Antoine François Prévost.
This atlas covers a vast geographical area, encompassing the continents of Africa, Asia, America and Oceania. African maps include the Cape of Good Hope, the Congo, the Monomotapa Empire and the Canary Islands. Asian maps include Persia, Arabia, the Maldives, the Philippines and China, with detailed contributions on Tartary and Japan. For the Americas, they illustrate Mexico, Peru, Brazil, Guyana, Louisiana, Florida, New York, as well as Hudson Bay and the St. Lawrence River.
