[Cosmography]. OLIVIERI (Bernardino). Circoli per formare la sfera armillare. Roma, Presso la Calcografia Camerale, 1795. 1 copper-engraved plate, 39 x 41.5 cm. on sheet approx. 45 x 60 cm. colored, remainder of tab at v° (slight marginal foxing).
Plate composed of several figures and pieces intended to be cut and mounted. Taken from the "Nuovo Atlante Geografico Universale" published in Rome between 1792 and 1801. The plate includes segments of the globe divided into twelve parts, as well as other elements intended for the construction of an armillary sphere.
If assembled, the armillary sphere would have a diameter of around 28 cm, while the segmented central globe would have a diameter of around 5 cm. The various rings of the armillary sphere include the equator, the Tropic of Cancer, the Tropic of Capricorn, as well as the polar and Antarctic zones and circles. Around these segments, concentric circles indicate climatic zones such as the temperate zone, the cold zone and the torrid zone, with annotations in Latin and Italian designating the polar circles, the equator and the tropics.
