[Binding with coat of arms]. LE BLANC (Vincent); BERGERON (P - Lot 16
[Binding with coat of arms]. LE BLANC (Vincent); BERGERON (Pierre). Les voyages fameux du sieur Vincent Le Blanc, Marseillois A Paris, chez Gervais Clovsier, 1658. 3 parts in 1 vol. in-4, [1] f. (title), 202-[5] p. ; 147-[4] p. ; 109-[3] p., contemporary speckled tan basane, 5-rib spine, new gilt title, coat of arms at tail of spine, gilt coat of arms on boards, double gilt fillet at edges, gilt roulette at endpapers, red speckled edges (defects including almost detached upper board, uncovered headpieces, light spotting at beginning of volume, browning, last f. faded and stained). New edition of this curious work based on the manuscripts of Vincent Le Blanc (1553-1633), a traveler from Marseilles. The geographical descriptions it contains are accompanied by comments of all kinds, mixing verifiable observations with imaginary considerations. This interesting provenance testifies to the interest this work aroused in its time, and beyond: the binding bears the coat of arms of Gabriel-Jérôme de Bullion de Bonnelles (1695-1752), maître de camp of the Régiment de Provence, provost of the city of Paris, then maréchal de camp (OHR, 640, variant not reproduced); the copy then passed into the library of Abbé André Morellet (1727-1819), economist, close to the philosophers and contributor to the Encyclopédie (engraved bookplate).
