FRÉZIER (Amédée François). Relation du voyage de la Mer du Sud aux côtes du Chily et du Pérou, fait pendant les années 1712, 1713 & 1714. A Paris, chez Nyon, 1732. In-4, [1] f. (fx.-title), XIV-298-[2]-63 p., pl., contemporary marbled havana calf, 5-rib spine, garnet-toned title-piece, decorative fleurons and double gilt fillet, red edges, corners, headpieces and spine restored (1 corner crushed, some soiling and browning not serious, flaws including sporadic small wetness, plate 28 browned, worm spot in margin at end of volume).
Second edition of this work, with a 63-page supplement containing Frezier's response to Father Feuillée's criticisms in the preface to his third volume of Journal des observations physiques, mathématiques ... published in 1735. The first part of this book gives an account of the voyage from France to around Cape Horn, and was used by contemporary and even later navigators. The second part covers the voyage along the coasts of Chile and Peru, describing the main towns.
The illustrations consist of 22 maps and plans, 16 of which are fold-outs, and 15 illustrations showing the flora and fauna of the region, as well as the natives, for a total of 37 copper-engraved plates (pl. 30 numbered XXXVI).
