DECRETS OF THE SENSES sanctioned by voluptuousness. New work - Lot 36

DECRETS OF THE SENSES sanctioned by voluptuousness. New work. Enrichi de gravures Anglaises [sic]. A Rome, De l'Imprimerie du Saint Père, 1793. In-8, full dark blue morocco, framed with triple cold fillet on the boards, 5-rib spine decorated with cold boxes, double fillet on the edges, gilt inner lace, untrimmed, lined case (Koehler binding). 128 pp. (misquoted 228), gallant frontispiece and 6 half-page free engravings with engraved text below. Collection of free stories in verse or prose, in which we find allusions to personalities of the time such as Doctor Guillotin, the singer Saint-Huberti. Marie-Antoinette and the Duchesse de Polignac are listed with Duthé and Colombe among the "charming courtesans". Minor but not serious rubbing to binding, two marginally frayed leaves, slight foxing. Gay I, 835; Pia, 305; Dutel, A-249**. Interesting revolutionary charge against personalities of the time.
