[Sir Herbert CROFT]. [2 ff.], vij, 177 pp, [1 f.] errata; [2 ff.], 155 pp, [1 p.], v pp. (catalog), frontispiece to each part, the second depicts wild Ulaietea Omai brought to England in 1774. First edition. This epistolary novel appeared in English in 1780 under the title Love and Madness. It is the most famous work by Croft, who died in Paris in 1816 and was responsible for the discovery of Gessner's The Magnificent Godfather, thought to have been lost.
