Marius de BUZON (1879-1958) Shepherds and Kabyle family Oil on canvas, signed lower right, located in Algiers and dated 1923. Stamp on the back: Salon des artistes français de 1924. 112 x 186 cm Originally from Bordeaux, Marius de Buzon studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Bordeaux where he was a student of Quinsac, before entering the Ecole des Beaux-Arts de Paris in the studio of Maignan and Cormon. He was awarded the Villa d'Abdel-Tif scholarship in 1913. After a brief return to France, he decided to settle permanently in Algeria. The Kabyle country particularly attracted him and remained the source of his inspiration: Cortèges de mariages, Femmes au bain, Scènes de vendanges and Scènes pastorales.
