Magnificent Unbreakable Bébé Jumeau called...

Magnificent Unbreakable Bébé Jumeau called “Portrait Deluxe” in size 1
Among the Bébés created by Jumeau, the one we call today “Portrait Deluxe” is in fact the very first “Bébé Incassable” (Unbreakable Baby) released on the market as early as 1877, when this company had not yet won the prestigious gold medal, which consecrated it at the Universal Exhibition in Paris in October 1878.
Quite naturally, these first Bébés Incassables did not yet carry the mark with the blue stamp on the body, taking advantage of the obtaining of this medal. They are rare, because they were manufactured for a short period of time.
The specimen presented here is in perfect condition. Its pressed bisque head bears the size number 1 in the neck, it has a closed mouth, large almond-shaped eyes in blue enamel with radiated decoration, a pale complexion much appreciated by discerning collectors, pierced ears and a blond mohair wig on a cork pate. His body with ball joints is, therefore, not yet marked and he is dressed in a tartan dress typical of the children’s fashion of the late 1870s, enriched by a pretty velvet hat trimmed with a silk ribbon. He wears authentic leather Jumeau shoes, slightly more recent, marked “7 E. JUMEAU MED. OR 1878 PARIS DEPOSE”. He measures 16½’’.
