Remarkable HURET doll with articulated wooden... - Lot 25 - Gros & Delettrez
Remarkable HURET doll with articulated wooden body This porcelain doll with fixed bust head comes from the mythical Maison Huret. Most of the dolls of this brand made at the beginning of the Second Empire had a fixed bust porcelain head, like this one, and a body in gutta-percha, a very fragile and perishable material, which was very often replaced by the House of Huret itself over time, as Danielle and François Theimer explain so well in their book devoted to this French firm. Now, this doll of the beginnings, whose features recall the famous Blondinette d’Avranches, was assembled on this wooden body, based on the patent deposited in 1865 by Mr. and Mrs. Anqueuille, at the time when the house Huret occupied the premises of 34, Bld. Haussmann in Paris, as can be read on the skin strip still legible on the bust of this doll. Her porcelain head, intact, has very finely painted features and wears a wig made of Tibetan goatskin. Her body with elaborate joints is in good condition with movable wrists. Her white piqué dress is trimmed with brown soutache and reflects the typical style of children’s fashion of the early years of the Second Empire. Lingerie underwear, black stockings, unmarked leather boots and a black velvet toquet complete the set. 17’’ tall.
