Jean-Léon GERÔME (1824-1904) Portrait of the horse Gamin Oil on canvas Signed, dated and signed " A my friend Ralli JL Gérôme 1846 " (bottom right), titled "Gamin cheval de Vendée" (top) ; supplier stamp "Deforge Carpentier" (reverse) 42 x 56,5cm Painted in 1846, probably enlarged by the artist before 1870 Provenance : - Probably Théodore Ralli, Paris (gift of the artist, around 1870). - René Germain Gibelin, Chârost, France (in the 1960s). - Then by descent to the current owner. A certificate of authenticity from Dr. Emily M. Weeks will be provided to the purchaser. This work will be included in the revision of the Catalogue Raisonné of the work of Jean-Léon Gérôme by Gérald Ackerman, currently being prepared by Emily M. Weeks, PhD.
